According to Ikigai and Zac Efron’s Down to Earth episode that covers Blue Zones, one of the keys to longevity is a strong community. As I lean more into my introvertedness, but still have the desire to try and live a long life, the fact that I have to be social in order to have a long life seems somewhat unfair. It doesn’t matter during those times that I think 45 is a good age to go (hopefully in my sleep), just because I want to avoid all the aches and pains of living past that age. But it matters for those times that I think, “Wouldn’t it be nice to see how much I could actually accomplish if I lived till 100?”
This was the first video that didn’t state outright that you need strong social ties. I’m sure it’s there implicitly. But what I loved about it was that she picked herself up after being asked for a divorce after 46 years of marriage because her husband had found someone else at the age of 70. Imagine that.
She was also a doctor and seems to have written many books, super accomplished. Happy. Delightful.
What stuck out the most out of this was the fact that she just kept going.
Plus the following phrase that I want to tattoo on my forehead (but I won’t because…well, just because):
“Don’t lose the light; follow the light.”
A reminder needed at the absolute right time. Hopefully this serves as a reminder for you as well, maybe when you need it too.
