It’s best to leave the bird UV light on for 8 to 12 hours per day—this mimics a natural daylight cycle. (Just an FYI: UVB lighting is important for pet bird’s vitamin D3 synthesis and overall health.)

Placement Tips

  • Place the light 12 to 18 inches above the cage.
  • Ensure there’s no glass or plastic between the bulb and the bird (UVB doesn’t pass through those materials).
  • Birds should be able to move in and out of the light — don’t force them to sit under it all day.

Important Notes

  • Too much UVB can cause eye or skin irritation, so stick to the recommended range.
  • Replace UVB bulbs every 6 to 12 months even if they still emit visible light — UV output diminishes over time.
